SENIOR MOBILE EXEC JOINS HEAVY.COM TO START NEW MOBILE DIVISION
Alex Green Named Senior Vice President and General Manager
Heavy.com To Accelerate It’s Leadership Position Providing Video Content For Mobile Devices
New York, NY – January 4, 2006: Heavy.com, the world’s leading broadband network with more than 10 million unique viewers monthly, today announced that veteran mobile executive Alex Green (33) will join the company to run Heavy.com’s new mobile content division in the position of Senior Vice President and General Manager.
Prior to joining Heavy.com.com, Green spent 5 years working at Mforma, a leading global publisher and distributor of mobile entertainment, where he served as Senior Vice President, Business Development and as Vice President, Sales. Green was instrumental in developing Mforma’s North American business and he closed wireless content distribution deals with all of the top-tier portals and mobile network operators. He was also responsible for some of Mforma’s early development and brand licensing deals including those with Activision, Inc. and Viacom Consumer Products. Green has launched more than 100 mobile products throughout the Americas including games, applications and personalization products.
Before his time at Mforma, Green worked at The 3DO Company where he helped introduce the 3DO Hardware System in Europe and he went on to run global sales and licensing outside of the US. While an executive at BMG Interactive, Green ran international licensing where he launched the original Grand Theft Auto game throughout many European countries and in Latin America and Asia Pacific.
“Mobile is going to be a major area of focus for Heavy and we are delighted that a seasoned new media executive like Alex is on-board,” said Simon Assaad, co-CEO of Heavy.com.
“Heavy was the first mover in Sony sanctioned video downloads for the PSP and we were the first to introduce ad-supported video for the video iPod,” said David Carson, co-CEO of Heavy.com. “We have an extensive catalogue of live-action and animated shorts that are ideal for mobile platforms—and we look forward to advancing our leadership position in video content for mobile.”
“I am very excited to be joining Heavy.com.com to start their mobile division,” said Green. “Heavy is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the rapid growth of video and other programming on cell-phones, together with other mobile devices such as the iPod and PSP.”
“Heavy’s extensive programming—including video, radio and games content—can be rapidly deployed on mobile devices including cell-phones. They have developed a market-leading formula for reaching 18-35 year olds, who are traditionally some of the heaviest users of mobile content, but who are hard to reach.”
“Heavy also has an instant audience of more than 10 million unique viewers per month, which represents a viral reach of more than 65 million, whom they will be able to reach with their mobile content.”
“From an advertising perspective, Heavy’s clients are also looking for new and innovative ways to reach consumers beyond online advertising. Targeting mobile devices like cell-phones is a logical next step, particularly as traditional advertising platforms fail to deliver.”
